I wasn’t exactly unhappy with the setup I had at my old home. The couch was comfy, I had a small fenced yard where I could do my business, and my human took me on a neighborhood walk every day. I thought I had it pretty good. But boy was I wrong. Since moving to Baiting Brook Farm, my quality of life has gone from decent to decadent! My day starts off pretty much like before. I’ve got a comfortable dog bed to sleep in and a really nice home. But now when I wake up, I can see the sunlight streaming into our home and hear the birds chirping outside. After I have breakfast, my humans grab the leash and that is my signal that my day is about to get a whole lot better! When we walk outside the door, the first thing I do is breathe in the fresh country air and notice how there is no smell of exhaust fumes and no sounds of cars driving on a busy road. Instead, I hear leaves rustling in the trees and birds singing. The first place we like to stop at on our morning adventure is the chicken coop. Along the way, I sniff just about anything I can find… trees, wildflowers, and grasses.
The scents are always changing on the farm. When we get to the chicken coop, I love greeting the chickens and I say hello to them with a nice big bark although I’m not so sure they are happy to see me. Next we start to make our way over to the cow pasture, with a pit stop by the pond and walk out to the edge of the dock. Sometimes, my parents feed me a little treat here and we sit for a while taking in the pretty scenery together. Visiting the cows is always a lot of fun. Even though they are bigger than me by a lot, I am not afraid of them and they certainly don't seem afraid of me. Usually, they just go about their business, chomping and chewing on the grasses in the pasture.
On the way to the walking trails of Callahan State Park, we like to stop and say hello to the horses. They seem pretty happy to see my humans, but not so happy to see me. I think they might actually be a bit afraid of me which is silly because I just want to be their friend. We then walk down and over to the entrance of the trails of Callahan State Park. Once we get to the interior trails, my leash comes off and I am free to run and play as long as I listen and come to them when they call to me. There are lots of humans with dogs like me along these trails and sometimes I meet a new friend along the way. When my humans and I are getting too tired from all of our fun and frolicking, we start to head back to the house. But if I have gotten muddy or dirty while playing in the park, there is one last place to go, the onsite dog spa. There they give me a nice warm bath and a good scrub. We arrive back at the house and I am clean, content, and ready for a nice long nap. The very best part is that I get to do this all over again tomorrow. Life on the farm is the best life for a dog like me!
